Reading at Blue Coat

The importance of reading is promoted throughout Blue Coat and every teacher is a teacher of reading and literacy. Blue Coat also champions reading for pleasure, and this is reflected across all subjects with extra-curricular subject reading, book groups, author visits, reading competitions and having a popular and well-stocked Library run by a qualified Librarian. At Blue Coat we believe there is something for everyone when it comes to reading and we aim to encourage students to find what interests them to help with their studies and to further their own interests.

Reluctant Readers

What if my child doesn’t like reading?

We know that not all children read for pleasure – they might find it difficult or think that it’s boring.

Research has shown that reading for pleasure can make a huge difference to children – not only academically (even in subjects like maths) but also socially and emotionally.

On the below link, we share some top tips to help young people enjoy reading more.

Once your child has found a book they love it can sometimes be difficult for them to find something else, but don’t worry the Book Trust have some top tips on how to support your child finding another literary experience to enjoy just as much.

For further information on the benefits of reading and what we do at Blue Coat please explore our available resources on this page.
