Safeguarding and Welfare

Protecting Children From Abuse

The safety of our pupils is paramount and we have robust safeguarding and monitoring procedures to ensure the safety of all of our pupils. To learn more about how safeguarding looks at Blue Coat, please click here.

Like other schools, Blue Coat has a Designated Safeguarding Lead. Parents/Carers should be aware that the school will take any reasonable action to ensure the safety of pupils. Where we are concerned that a child may be the subject of ill-treatment, neglect or other forms of abuse, staff will follow Child Protection Procedures and report concerns to Social Services as appropriate. We may, on occasion, need to make a referral without consulting parents/carers. However, we will make every effort to maintain a positive working relationship with parents/carers whilst fulfilling our duties to protect the children in our care.

E-Safety

The school promotes the appropriate use of social media, which can be a valuable tool for learning. All pupils should be mindful of their digital footprint. The school reserves the right to sanction pupils who misuse social media to the detriment of other members of our school community, or the school itself, as outlined in our policies. Guidance on how parents can support safe use of social media can be found here.

Administration of Medicines

The school’s policy is not to administer any form of medicine, including paracetamol. However, if a pupil must take a prescribed medicine during the school day, the parent/carer can bring the medicine into school and sign a medication form. A member of staff will store the medicine and the pupil can come and take it at the appropriate time. We can store spare inhalers, EpiPens and insulin which we ask parents to provide where appropriate, in line with the school policy.

School Nurse Service

We are in regular contact with the School Nurse Service. If you would like your child to see a member of this team, please contact Student Services.
